Is It Halloween Yet? How to Turn Yourself into a Zombie!

Has it really been 2 months since my last post? I totally lost my blogging groove, but I think a good post about zombies will perk me back up.

As I’m sure you know, I’m absolutely obsessed with The Walking Dead. I just can’t get enough zombies! When AC Lens approached me about doing a Halloween piece for them, I knew exactly what I’d do.

The Costume

Dressing like a zombie is actually really easy. Just grab some clothes that you don’t mind ruining. They can be old pieces from your closet or something cheap from a thrift shop. Rub some dirt on them, especially around the knees, shins, and elbows. If you’re a germaphobe like I am, grab a cheap bronzer. This can be done ahead of time. You can also tear your clothes in a little or use a razor to make them look a bit worn out.

If you want to be a little extra, you can go with a themed zombie outfit. Some fun ones might be cheerleader zombies, prisoner zombies, or corporate zombies. Let your imagination run wild!

The day that you wear the costume, whether that’s Halloween or October 22nd for your Walking Dead viewing party, grab the fake blood. Drip some on strategic places. I prefer to go for the neck and chest (so it looks like I just had a delightful meal).

A couple years ago, I turned my brother into a zombie for Halloween, and he loved it.

Hair and Makeup

If you have a lot of hair, tease the shit out of it. Really go crazy. It should look as messy as possible. If you can get away with it, don’t wash it for a couple of days, and add a little extra hair oil.

For your makeup, follow my Bloody Walker Tutorial. If you don’t have the Lip Tar, you can use fake blood.

The Finishing Touch: Zombie Eyes

The hardest thing to get right is definitely your eyes. Not everyone can pull off dead eyes. I really wish I had costume contacts, when I made my makeup tutorial last year.

AC Lens sells a bunch of awesome, FDA-cleared Halloween contacts. My personal favorites are their Zombie Undead lenses. They’re the perfect finishing touch for any zombie costume!

Red, White, and Blue: My 4th of July Look

AAAHHHHHHH! It’s been a while! Things have been crazy at work, and I had to put this blog on the back burner for a little bit. However, I couldn’t let another holiday pass without a new outfit post! One of my favorite things about the 4th of July is the color scheme. In a country that’s so divided about a lot of things, it’s great to see everyone come together to openly celebrate the freedom that allows us to have differing opinions. My 4th of July look last year was vintage-inspired, and I couldn’t resist going for a similar look this year. Read more

A lot of exciting things happened to me around the end of May and beginning of June last year, so I’m celebrating 2 very important and amazing anniversaries: my blogiversary and my workiversary! Yesterday was my 1st workiversary, and my boss surprised me with tickets to see The Little Mermaid Musical. Today is my 1st blogiversary, and I’m treating myself to my favorite bakery! Through all of the hard work, new experiences, and fun of the past year, I’ve learned a lot about myself, work, and life in general. Read more

Tale as Old as Time: Why I Love Beauty and the Beast

As I’m sure you know, I’m a huge Disney fan. Like huge. Like many other 90s kids, I grew up on Disney. I had almost every Disney movie on VHS, and I watched them all the time. Because we lived in California, my family and I went to Disneyland all the time. I think our record was 6 or 7 times in 1 year. One of my favorite Disney movies has always been Beauty and the Beast. I grew up with the cartoon, but I love the live action remake even more. I’ve seen it twice, and I downloaded the soundtrack a couple hours after watching it for the first time. Is there anything Emma Watson can’t do?  Read more

A Reflection on Self-Esteem

So many of us struggle with self-esteem, myself included. For many years, I couldn’t be cool enough, pretty enough, skinny enough. I just didn’t think I was enough. I spent so much time and energy trying to fit in with other people by being like them. I tried (and failed) to follow popular trends, and adapted my style to those around me. One day, I asked myself, “why the fuck do you care if these people think you’re enough?” I then decided that I would become who I wanted to be, not who I thought others wanted me to be. It didn’t happen overnight. I still sometimes wonder if people think I’m weird, fat, or ugly. Then I remember that I’m a badass bitch. Self-esteem isn’t something that you just have: it’s something that you work on daily. As I nurtured my personal style, by self-esteem grew exponentially. Read more
