By now, you know me for my fun, quirky, and weird outfits; however, sometimes I have to step out of my comfort zone a little. After I started working at a startup, I joined my boss’ networking group for women. For our monthly events, I actually have to wear grownup clothes. We recently had a networking dinner with plenty of Italian food and wine, so I had to pull out what would be my go-to cocktail party outfit, if I actually went to cocktail parties.
The Dress
I bought this Mystic dress from Modcloth over a year ago, and even though it’s gorgeous I’ve only worn it twice. If I wasn’t such a hermit, I’m sure I’d wear it more often. Modcloth doesn’t have this dress anymore, but they do have a good selection from Mystic, which is one of my favorite brands.
The Accessories
I’m currently renovating my room, and while I’m living in the guest room, most of my stuff is packed up in boxes. I couldn’t find a good necklace to add to this outfit, so it was boob city for me. However, I did find a cute kate spade bracelet that went well with my dress. I also carried a black kate spade crossbody.
You’ve seen me wear these Chase & Chloe heels before. They’re definitely the most comfortable heels I’ve ever owned. I got them from Modcloth, but unfortunately I can’t find them anywhere anymore. I wish I could buy them in more colors.
The Face and Hair
I beat my mug with ColourPop, as always. That’s ColourPop’s Ultra Satin Lip in Prim. I also wore my Sugarpill lashes in Sinnocent. I styled my hair into loose curls.
The Look
Here’s my final look! Do you have trouble dressing like a grownup? What’s your go-to cocktail party outfit? Let me know in the comments! xo
Love the dress! Such a beautiful texture on it! I have several dresses for formal occassions, what I struggle most is like “interview” clothes. I’m used to working in a pretty chill environment (IT office, as chill as it gets!) so, now that I’m job hunting I know that my comfy denim and printed tee have to stay behind for a bit. I just went shopping the other week to get some formal black pants and a few formal blouses, and now I’m ready for the interviews!
I HATE interview clothes. I found a super cute top and a green pencil skirt that I can deal with, but they’re just so stuffy and uncomfortable. My boss and I actually work out of her home office, and she’s actually invited me to wear pajamas to work. I’m too obsessed with my clothes to do so very often, but it has happened once or twice. Now I save my “interview” clothes for networking lunches.
