Hello, lovelies!
Last week, I told you about the first part of my family’s Tennessee trip, Spelunking at Lookout Mountain. Even though we only spent 1 full day in Chattanooga, there is a
part two to our adventures. After lunch and a quick stop at the awful motel, we went to the Tennessee Aquarium. We had heard great things about the aquarium, but as
staunch fans of the one in Monterey, CA, we were a bit skeptical. As soon as we arrived, our minds were changed.
As we approached the aquarium, we saw that it was actually made up of several buildings. They had a food court, and IMAX theater, and two huge buildings for the animals. After purchasing our tickets, we made our way to the Ocean Journey. We
started upstairs, where they had some birds, a touch tank, and a gorgeous butterfly room, before heading to the main exhibits. Instead of boring you with wordy descriptions, here are some fucking awesome pictures:
After we finished our oceanic journey, we meandered to the River Journey. We started downstairs at a special seahorse exhibit. They had seahorses and seadragons from around the world, and they were adorable. We then took the escalator up to explore the river exhibits. Before we entered the exhibits, we saw an awesome view of the actual river. The exhibits were placed on several floors around a 5+ story tank that houses giant fish. They seriously looked like the fish from River Monsters. Unfortunately, it was really dark around the that tank, so none of my pictures of the giants really turned out well. Here are more awesome pictures that I don’t feel like writing about:
Conclusions
The Tennessee Aquarium has usurped Monterey Bay Aquarium’s title as my favorite aquarium. I can’t get over how huge the campus was. They also have a boat tour through the Tennessee River Gorge. We didn’t have time for it on this trip, but we’ll definitely check it out next time. I never thought I’d say this, but I can’t wait to go back to Chattanooga.
Have you gone on any fun trips lately? Do you love aquariums, too? Let me know in the comments! xo
I love aquariums!! And jellyfishes are the prettiest + interesting things ever, I could take pictures of them forever, they’re so mysterious and beautiful!! But yea, I really like aquariums, I enjoy seeing all those animals that would otherwise be really hard for us to see, and learning about them 🙂 Part of me feels bad about them living in water tanks instead of roaming free, but it helps when the Aquariums are huge and they have plenty of space!
My absolute favorite sea animal, besides narwhals, are jellies! I feel kinda bad about viewing all of the animals in captivity, too, but they’re just so fascinating! The facility was so nice, that I didn’t feel too bad about it.
They have a special on for this week for our local aquarium in the smokeys so this is a bit of a reminder 🙂 We loved the spotted stingrays when we went to this one, I think they are gorgeous and I’ve got to pat wild ones in the past 🙂
You guys definitely need to go! I never can pass up an aquarium trip!
