You can probably tell that I have a hoarding problem. I just love things so much, and I like having a lot of options. This doesn’t change when I travel. To control my hoarding habits, I’ve developed a very specific packing strategy. When packing for a weekend trip, I used to use a backpack, a duffle bag, a purse, and a tote, but I’ve managed to get it down to just the duffle and a purse!
Right before the beginning of the current apocalypse, I took a trip to Alabama to visit my cousins. I completely procrastinated and didn’t pack until the morning of my trip, but my trusty packing list saved me.
I usually use a color-coded spreadsheet, but I thought it would be fun to make a pretty template that y’all can download here. Let’s break down everything that I recommend packing for a weekend trip:
Toiletries
Pack everything you use daily: face wash, shampoo, conditioner, soap/body wash, lotion, tooth brush and tooth paste, etc. I hoard samples of all of these things, so I usually bring those. Don’t forget you hair brush and any styling tools that you need. If you wear makeup, bring your essentials. If you wear contacts, don’t forget you contact solution, case, and a spare set.
Miscellaneous
Are you unable to live without your laptop? Do you always need to have a new book on hand? This is where these things go. I like to make sure that I have a Tide pen and a small first aid kit. And don’t forget your chargers!
Purse
I recommend keeping your most important things in your purse. This should include any medications that you need, your wallet, hand sanitizer, and an external battery for your phone.
Clothes and Accessories
Obviously, I’m a hoarder, and I like to have choices. I always bring at least 1 extra outfit, just in case. Don’t forget your pajamas and extra underwear!
What are some essentials that you always bring when packing for a weekend trip?
