Hello, lovelies!
My HootLoot box reignited my love for books. When I was growing up, I was a voracious reader. I often got in trouble for reading instead of sleeping. Iย spent a lot of time at the library, and I always looked forward to book fairs at school. Before book boxes were a thing, I actually had a Dear America subscription. I received a new Dear America book every month, along with a craft inspired by the book.
Here are my top 10 favorite books of all time, in no particular order:ย
The Entire Harry Potter Series
Obviously, Harry Potter had to make it onto this list. I grew up with Harry, and Hermione is one of my idols. I would love to grow up to be her, minus the whole marrying Ron thing. Seriously, she could do so much better! Anyway, this series definitely had a huge impact on my life, and I’m still waiting on my Hogwarts letter. The poor owl must have gotten lost over the ocean.
Bossypants by Tina Fey
Let me start by saying that Tina Fey is one of my favorite people ever. She’s hilarious and beautiful and totally awesome. I loved reading about her life so far. This book was full of great stories.
Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me Chelsea by Chelsea Handler
Back in the days of Chelsea Lately, I adored Chelsea Handler. I’m not a huge fan of hers anymore, but I still love her books. Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me Chelsea is still my favorite. It had me in tears from laughing so hard. Seriously, I had to put the books own, because I was laughing too hard to read.
Ella Enchanted
I’ve always loved fairytales, but sometimes reimagined fairytales are even better. I found this book at the school book fair when I was like 9 or 10, and I fell in love. When they made the movie version with Anne Hathaway, I was super stoked! I still love both the book and the movie.
My Five Husbands . . . And the Ones Who Got Away by Rue McClanahan
If you follow me on Instagram, you probably know that I’m obsessed with the Golden Girls. Of course, I couldn’t resist Blanche’s book. Holy shit, that woman lived a life. Some parts were heart-warming, while others were heartbreaking. If you need both a good laugh and a good cry, read this one.
Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire
Another reimagined fairytale. I couldn’t resist it. It was super interesting to read a version of Cinderella from an ugly sister’s point of view.
Yes Please by Amy Poehler
I couldn’t include Bossypants and not include Yes Please. Of course, I’m obsessed with Amy Poehler. I’m totally voting Fey/Poehler in 2020. I loved reading about her life, her relationship with Tina, and her SNL days.
Pawnee: The Greatest Town in America by Leslie Knope
Parks and Rec is one of my all-time favorite shows. I actually wrote about it in a paper for one of my Women’s Studies classes. Leslie Knope is one of my feminist sheroes. When I saw that this book was actually a thing, I knew I had to have it. I wasn’t disappointed.
Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
If you don’ love this classic mindfuck, I don’t know if we can be friends.
Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire
Obviously, I’m obsessed with the musical, but I did read the book first. It was delightfully dark. Elphaba is definitely my favorite incarnation of the Wicked Witch of the West.
Honorable mention: Workin’ It by Rupaul
Obviously, I love drag queens, and Rupaul is one of the best. Her book is full of great advice, both on style and on life.
Have you read any of the books on my list? What are some of your favorite books? Let me know in the comments! xo
Is the Ella Enchanted book similar to the movie? I didn’t even know it was based on a book, but I love it!
And I don’t have to say it, but you already know I share your love for everything Harry Potter <3
They follow the same storyline, but the musical numbers in the movie definitely add a bit of fun! And absolutely!! <3
