It’s Valentine’s Day, and most people are celebrating their romantic relationships. Yes, romance is lovely, but don’t neglect the most important relationship in your life: your relationship with yourself. Here are some ways to practice your self love.
Feed Your Body
Yes, when I practice self care, I tend to treat myself with my favorite foods. However, when it comes to self love, it’s important to treat your body with foods that are good for it. Lean protein, fruits, and veggies are all important parts of of your diet, but don’t forget to toss in a few of your favorite things.
Feed Your Soul
Don’t forget to do something that makes you feel good in your heart. Some people turn to religion. Others meditate or do yoga. Some enjoy volunteering. Personally, I like to create things for others, either by crafting or cooking. Whether it’s something you do alone or with others, it’s important to feel as good in your heart as you do in your body.
Feed Your Mind
Even if you’re done with school, it’s important to keep learning and expanding your mind. Think about what interests you and find a way to learn more. Listen to podcasts. Watch documentaries. Read books. Do whatever you can to keep learning.
Pump Yourself Up (Physically)
Your body is your temple. It’s up to you to keep it in good shape. No, not everyone is a fitness influencer, but it is important to stay healthy. Find some kind of exercise that you love. Go hiking. Dance it out. Throw around some weights. If you do something that you enjoy, you’ll do it more often. Personally, I hate cardio, and I’m not a fan of being around other people, so I like lifting weights in my home gym. Look for something that works for you.
Pump Yourself Up (Emotionally)
It’s also important to keep your self-esteem in good shape. When I’m not feeling good about myself, I have a little exercise that I do. If I feel bad about myself physically, I force myself to look in the mirror and find 3 things that I like about how I look. If I feel bad about myself as a human, I make myself think about 3 things that I’m good at. Doing this helps prevent me from falling into a self-hate spiral.
