I’m sure you’ve noticed by now that I myself and strange and unusual. Obviously, some of my clothing choices are a bit odd, and I love horror, but my interest in oddities and curiosities goes much deeper than that. I also love antique medical equipment and training tools. I collect tarot cards, crystals, and other witchy things, and I find odd taxidermy fascinating. As soon as they released tickets for the Oddities and Curiosities Expo, I snatched them up.
The morning of the Expo was freezing, so I wasn’t able to wear the outfit that I wanted to wear. Instead I settled on jeans and long sleeves under one of my Kurtis Rykovich kimonos. Needless to say, the kimono was a hit. We made sure to get there right as they opened, before the crowd came in.
I didn’t take any pictures, because I feel like it’s disrespectful to take and use pictures of artists’ work without payment or permission, but we saw so many awesome things. Several vendors had diaphonized and jarred specimens. Some had jewelry made from bones, crystals, and different metals. The taxidermy vendor had a couple of hilarious raccoons holding Cracker Jack boxes. There were odd antique dealers with old bone saws and other medical equipment. One even had plaster anatomy models!
One of the vendors that I was really excited to see was Artetak. I’ve been a fan of Kate for a while, so it was really cool to meet her. I think the best way to describe her art is Satanic Lisa Frank. If I could, I would wallpaper my walls with her art! I ended up buying a super cute Ave Satanas necklace from her. It actually fits perfectly in the neckline of the dress I wanted to wear to the expo!
Have you ever been to the Oddities and Curiosities Expo?
