I’m sure you know that I love the Star Struck pattern from George + Ginger Patterns. You’ve already seen two of them from me. I recently made one in stretch faux leather, and it’s by far my favorite. In fact, I love it so much that I’m now selling it in my Etsy shop as The Bella Dress! But I have to say that there definitely is a learning curve when it comes to sewing with stretch faux leather.
I had never worked with stretch faux leather before. I’m super stubborn and annoyingly independent, so I didn’t read or watch and tutorials. Sewing the front bodice pieces to the lining wasn’t great, but it wasn’t too bad either. Attaching the first strap was a nightmare. The fabric stretched as I sewed, and it ended up rippled in hideous. I wanted to give up right then and there, but I had already cut out the entire pattern, and I can’t stand wasting fabric.
When I gave the second strap a shot, I went really really slowly. Like, I probably could have hand stitched faster. It was annoying, but soooooo worth it. The second strap was so good that I completely took apart the first one and redid it. Figuring that bit out made the rest of the dress go smoothly.
The moment I put that dress on, I knew it was worth all of the trouble. Of course it was a perfect fit. It was my third time making this pattern for myself, so it better fit. But the stretch faux leather just felt so good. It’s so smooth and soft, and it stretches perfectly for my curves while still being structured enough to keep everything where it should be. It’s so perfectly witchy and badass that I had to name it the Bella Dress. I want this dress to be my ghost dress.
